Does Linktree Use AI? Training, ChatGPT and Opt-Out (2026)

Yes. Linktree uses profile data to train its own recommendation algorithms, shares basic profile information with integrated apps such as ChatGPT, and lets AI agents you connect edit your links and profile within the permissions you grant. You can now switch off third-party data sharing in your account settings, but that does not recall data already shared.

All of this is in Linktree's own documents, both carrying an effective date of 5 July 2026: the Privacy Notice (linktr.ee/s/privacy) and the Terms & Conditions (linktr.ee/s/terms). We re-read both live on 12 October 2026, and every quote below is verbatim from that read.

Does Linktree use AI?

In three separate ways, and it helps to keep them apart because each has a different off-switch:

UseWhere it is writtenCan you switch it off?
Training Linktree's own recommendation algorithms on your dataPrivacy Notice, "To develop and improve the Linktree Services"No setting is documented
Sharing profile data with integrated apps like ChatGPTPrivacy Notice, third-party sharing sectionYes, the Data sharing control in account settings
Linktree's own AI features (caption generator, AI chat) sending inputs to model providersTerms, Section 14 "Generative AI"Only by not using those features

A fourth item sits next to these: AI agents you connect yourself, covered below.

Does Linktree train AI on my profile?

It trains its own systems, yes. The Privacy Notice lists this purpose verbatim: "To inform, train and improve our algorithms so we can deliver the most relevant recommendations and content to you, including User Profiles that you may be interested in."

That is Linktree-internal recommendation modelling, not handing your content to OpenAI for model training. The Terms add a second, broader clause for Linktree's own AI features. Section 14 says Linktree "may process and store Inputs and Output (including conversation history) and share them with service providers (including AI model providers) for providing, maintaining, securing, and improving the AI Features." Anything you type into a Linktree AI tool, such as the AI Insights chat, falls under that.

What does Linktree share with ChatGPT?

The Privacy Notice names OpenAI directly: "individuals can search for User Profiles using the Linktree app within ChatGPT, and we may share basic profile information, a summarized biography, profile picture, engagement metrics, and other relevant data in response to those queries."

So when someone asks ChatGPT about a creator and your profile matches, those fields can be passed to OpenAI. "Other relevant data" means the list is not exhaustive. This is search-result enrichment, not image-model training. Our Linktree Privacy Notice breakdown goes through the full sharing section.

Can ChatGPT or Claude edit my Linktree?

Yes, if you connect one. The Privacy Notice names "Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any other third party tool" you authorize, and says a connected agent "may perform actions on your behalf within the scope of the permissions you authorize," including "creating, updating, deleting or reorganizing links, modifying your profile or appearance settings, updating social integrations, retrieving analytics, or managing multiple profiles." Linktree puts the responsibility on you: "You are responsible for reviewing and approving the instructions you provide to connected AI applications."

The plumbing is official. Linktree runs its own MCP (Model Context Protocol) server at mcp.linktr.ee, documented at mcp.linktr.ee/docs: OAuth sign-in, 34 tools, and writes and deletes tagged "approval required" so the AI app can ask you first. We could not find a Linktree help-centre article for it, so how to connect it from inside ChatGPT or Claude is unstated by Linktree. The other "Linktree MCP" servers you will see in search results are third-party projects, not Linktree's.

Can I opt out of Linktree's AI data sharing?

Partly. The Privacy Notice now has a control under its privacy choices: "Data sharing: You may choose to stop sharing your information with third parties through your account settings." It covers integrations "like ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or other connector/integration compatible tools."

Two limits, both in Linktree's own words:

  1. "Stopping data sharing will not affect any information already shared with third parties or limit how those third parties use such information in accordance with their own policies."
  2. "Once information has been shared with a third-party AI provider or application at your direction, that provider may retrain and process the information in accordance with its own terms and privacy policies, even after you disconnect the integration from Linktree."

Linktree also warns that turning it off "may affect your access to certain monetisation opportunities and reduce the discoverability of your User Profile on third party applications or services." The control does not touch internal algorithm training or Section 14. We do not hold a Linktree account, so we cannot tell you the toggle's exact label; the policy only says "account settings."

Is Linktree scraping my links for AI?

Your profile is public, and that is the bigger exposure. Profiles "are publicly accessible to anyone by default, unless you choose to restrict access by enabling password protection," and the notice says a profile "may appear in search results provided by internet search engines (like Google) or in responses generated by chatbots (like ChatGPT or Claude)."

That applies to any public bio page on any platform: crawlers can read what is public. Linktree's data-sharing control limits what Linktree sends to partners; it does not hide your public page. Password protection is the documented way to do that. More on the security side in Is Linktree safe?.

Are EU creators treated differently?

By the policy text, yes. The OpenAI paragraph and a second sharing paragraph both close with: "Certain integrations or data-sharing features may not be available in all regions, including for Users or User Profiles located in the European Union." Internal training and Section 14 have no such carve-out. Our GDPR link-in-bio checklist covers the wider EU picture.

What changed on July 5, 2026?

Both documents took a new effective date of 5 July 2026, and the notice told users: "If you do not agree, you should discontinue using Linktree before this date." That date drove an early-June migration wave, much of it sparked by a viral claim that Linktree would feed creators' imagery into DALL-E. The data-sharing opt-out and the named Claude and Cursor integrations were not in the text we read on 12 June; both were there when we re-read it on 10 August. If you left at the time, our migration guide still covers moving a page cleanly.

Are there link-in-bio tools that don't share data with AI apps?

Ask three questions of any tool: does it ship AI features that send your inputs to a model provider, does it share profile data with AI apps, and where is it run from.

  • Linkero (our tool, so weigh this accordingly). EU-run on a .ro domain, with no AI feature and no chatbot integration that sends profile data outward. To be precise: our privacy policy has no AI-specific clause at all. What we have is the absence of an AI product, not a written no-training promise. If your page already works on Linktree and the opt-out covers your concern, staying is reasonable. Compare in Linktree vs Linkero.
  • Beacons. Its privacy policy lists sharing with AI services "such as Open AI or Google, to generate content," so it is not the pick if AI data flows are your main worry.
  • Self-hosted (LinkStack and similar). No third-party integrations unless you add them, at the cost of running a server. See self-hosted vs managed link in bio.

FAQ

Does Linktree use AI?

Yes. It trains its own recommendation algorithms on user data, shares profile data with integrated apps such as ChatGPT, offers AI features covered by Terms Section 14, and lets AI agents you connect manage your page.

Can I opt out without deleting my account?

Yes, for third-party sharing. The Data sharing control in account settings stops further sharing with partners and integrations like ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor. It does not recall data already shared, and it does not cover Linktree's internal algorithm training.

Is Linktree actually free?

The Free plan exists, and the AI terms apply to it the same as to paid plans. Whether Pro is worth paying for is a separate question we answer in Linktree Free vs Pro.

Did Linktree feed creators' images into DALL-E?

Not according to the policy text. The June claim got the date and the OpenAI link right, but the clause describes a ChatGPT profile search that includes one image field, "profile picture," not DALL-E training on all page imagery. Directionally right, specifically wrong.

Does Linktree have an official MCP server?

Yes. Linktree hosts one at mcp.linktr.ee with public documentation at mcp.linktr.ee/docs. It uses OAuth sign-in and can read analytics and add, edit or delete links once you authorize it.
